Aquascape Ecosystem BioFalls Filters – Natural, High-Performance Pond Filtration

Aquascape’s Ecosystem Pond System is built around a simple philosophy: let nature lead. This approach delivers exceptional water clarity and stability by supporting the growth of beneficial bacteria—the real workforce behind a clean, balanced pond.

By combining mechanical filtration, biological filtration, and natural processes within the pond itself, the Ecosystem system creates a healthy, low-maintenance aquatic environment that looks and feels completely natural.

The system begins with a surface skimmer, removing leaves and larger debris before the water is pumped into the BioFalls filter.

Acting as the biological heart of the system, the BioFalls houses a filter mat and optional biomedia that provide vast surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise.

The filtered water is then returned to the pond—either directly or through a stream or waterfall—continuing the oxygen-rich cycle.

Rocks, gravel, and pond plants complete this natural setup, offering additional bacterial habitat and supporting oxygen levels to keep the system running smoothly all year long.

Aquascape Signature Series BioFalls Filters

The Signature Series BioFalls brings all the benefits of ecosystem-based pond filtration into a discreet, landscape-integrated design. Built to be buried and blended into surrounding rockwork or planting, they create the illusion of a natural source point for a stream or waterfall while quietly delivering serious filtration power in the background.

These filters are low-maintenance, robust, and highly effective, harnessing natural biological processes to produce clear, clean, oxygen-rich water—exactly what healthy ponds thrive on.

How the BioFalls Filter Works

  • Swirl Chamber Intake
Water enters through the lower swirl chamber, where heavier solids settle out naturally. This pre-separation improves the efficiency of both mechanical and biological filtration.

  • Mechanical & Biological Filtration
As the water level rises, the flow passes through the internal filter mat. This pad removes fine particles while simultaneously supporting colonies of beneficial bacteria that help absorb excess nutrients.

  • BioBall Expansion Capability
Aquascape BioBalls (optional) can be layered above the mat to drastically increase biological capacity.
    • Each 1½" BioBall offers an impressive 19 square inches of surface area.

  • Enhanced Filter Mat Technology

    • BioFalls 1000: Standard mat with reliable surface area for general filtration.

    • BioFalls 2500 & 6000: Upgraded mats coated with a special surface-treatment that boosts bacterial colonisation by 50%, dramatically enhancing biological performance.

  • Flexible Installation Options

    • BioFalls 1000: Single bulkhead inlet.

    • BioFalls 2500 & 6000: Dual inlets for higher flow applications or twin-skimmer setups.
If only one inlet is needed, the second can be blanked off—simple and adaptable.

Designed for Natural Integration

Once placed and connected, BioFalls filters can be completely disguised using stonework, planting pockets, or decorative features.

Positioned at the head of a stream or waterfall, they return highly oxygenated water to the pond—boosting circulation, improving biological activity, and enhancing movement and sound within the garden.

For best performance, the filtered water should enter the pond on the opposite side from the skimmer to maximise circulation.
