How a Sieve Pre-Filter Works (Why It’s So Effective)
In a sieve filter, water from the pond flows over a curved stainless steel sieve.
The sieve is made up of hundreds of fine triangular rods
Spacing is 200 or 300 microns (0.2–0.3 mm)
The rods are slightly angled so:
Solid waste remains on the sieve
Clean, sieved water falls through
The filtered water then flows on to the main biological filter, while waste is easily removed from the sieve surface before it can break down.
